The Coat Code® quiz

What is the Coat Code®?

It's a profile of your dog's coat, built from seventeen questions about their breed, coat texture, lifestyle and the problems you're actually having — shedding, matting, odour, itching. The result is one of fourteen coat profiles, a written routine telling you what to do and how often, and a shortlist of products matched to that profile rather than to a breed page.

How long does the quiz take?

About sixty seconds. There are seventeen questions, most of them one tap, and you can go back and change any answer before you see the result.

Do I need an account to take it?

No. The quiz is free, needs no account, and your result gets its own link you can bookmark or send to whoever else walks the dog. You can add your email at the end if you'd like the routine sent to you, but it's optional.

My dog is a mix — will it still work?

Yes, and mixes are exactly why it exists. The quiz asks about the coat in front of you rather than the breed on the paperwork, so two cockapoos with different coats get different codes.

Is the quiz a substitute for a vet or a groomer?

No. If the quiz sees anything that should be looked at professionally — broken skin, sore ears, sudden coat changes, severe matting — it will say so and stop recommending products for it. It is grooming guidance, not veterinary advice.

Products & ingredients

Are your products safe for puppies?

Every product page states the minimum age it's suitable for. As a rule we don't recommend bathing a puppy with anything before twelve weeks, and the quiz takes age into account when it builds a routine.

Can I use them on a dog with sensitive skin?

There's a fragrance-free line for exactly this, and the quiz will steer you to it if you tell it your dog has sensitive or reactive skin. If your dog is under veterinary treatment for a skin condition, check with your vet before changing anything.

Are your products cruelty-free?

Yes. Nothing we make is tested on animals beyond the dogs who volunteer enthusiastically for a bath, and no ingredient is bought from a supplier who tests.

Where are they made?

In the UK. Full ingredient lists are on every product page — if we can't explain why something's in a formula, it isn't in it.

How long do they last once opened?

Each product carries a period-after-opening symbol on the label. Most washes and conditioners are twelve months; balms and mists are on the pack.

Orders & delivery

How much is delivery?

UK standard delivery is £3.95, and free on orders over £40. Full options, timings and international rates are on the shipping page.

When will my order arrive?

Orders placed before 1pm on a working day are despatched the same day. UK standard delivery then takes two to four working days; express is next working day.

Can I change or cancel an order?

If it hasn't been despatched, yes — email us as soon as you can and we'll catch it if we can. Once it's with the courier you'll need to use the returns process instead.

Do you ship outside the UK?

To the EU, and to a handful of other countries. Duties and import charges aren't included in the price and are the recipient's responsibility. See the shipping page for the current list.

Returns & refunds

What's your returns policy?

Thirty days from delivery for unopened products in their original packaging. Opened grooming products can't be resold, so those can only be returned if something is wrong with them — and if something is wrong with them, we want to know.

My dog reacted badly to a product. What now?

Stop using it, and contact us with your order number and what happened. We'll refund it whether it's opened or not, and we'd like the batch number from the label so we can check it. If your dog is unwell, please speak to your vet first.

Something arrived damaged or missing.

Email us within fourteen days with your order number and a photo, and we'll replace it or refund it. You won't be asked to send a leaking bottle back through the post.

Giving back

Is it really ten percent?

Ten percent of what you pay for products, before shipping and after any discount — not ten percent of profit, and not a rounding-up prompt at checkout that comes out of your pocket rather than ours. Donations go to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home quarterly and the totals are published on the giving back page.

Are you affiliated with Battersea?

No. FurFix is an independent business and a donor. Battersea doesn't endorse FurFix products.
